You can save a lot of money on expensive salon hair color by doing it yourself. Home hair color can look just as good as professional hair color. There are just a few things to remember to get the best results. First of all, make sure to do your color in an area that is easy to clean. Hair color can be very messy, especially if you have long hair. Cover the floor with old towels or newspapers to prevent stains to floor. Wear gloves to kept your hands from being colored, it takes forever to get hair color off of your hands.
Now that you have your area ready, you need to make sure you get the correct color for your hair. Remember that color does not lift color. So, if you have colored your hair dark brown, you will not be able to use color to make you hair blonde. You would have to use a color remover, which is basically just hair bleach.
To ensure you get the hair color that you want you need to know what the underlying pigment in your natural hair color is and the base color of the hair color. Here is a list of the underlying pigment.
Hair color Underlying pigment
It is sometimes difficult to determine the base color in hair color. An easy way to know what the base color is to use the chart for underlying pigments. You also need to remember that you will be mixing the underlying pigment color and the base color together, so if you mix yellow and blue together you are going to get blue hair. If you mix red with red you are going to get a fire engine red hair color.
Blue based hair color is called an ash color. So if you have blonde hair you do not want to put an ash blonde color on it because you will have blue or green hair. Ash based color is also called a cool color, so if your hair color says it is cool platinum, or cool anything, you know it has a blue base. Red based color is all of your red hair color but it can also be any color that says it is warm. For example, a warm chestnut brown would have a red base. Any hair color that has a N or says neutral will cancel out the warmth of your natural pigment.
So, if your hair is too red, you would put a neutral color on it to tone down the red. Red based colors will help repair your color if you turn your hair blue or green. The best way to make sure you like the color is to do a test piece. To do this, place a small piece of hair and place the color on it. Then take a small piece of aluminum foil and wrap it around the piece of hair you colored. Let it sit for how ever long the directions say, usually twenty to thirty minutes. Shampoo hair, dry it and check to see if you like the color. If you do then proceed to color all of your hair. If you don't, then try another color until you find the one you like.
I hope this short guide helps you have salon beautiful hair color at home. Home hair color can save you money.
